What Makes An Effective Newsletter?
A newsletter or ezine can be made more effective by many things, but probably the most
important is material that fulfills The 5 Rules Of Meaningful Newsletter Content.
These rules became apparent to me over decades of involvement with newsletters and are
fundamental to a proper understanding of them as an effective communication medium for
groups. A quick summary of this reasoning appears below.
The 5 Rules Of Meaningful Newsletter Content
The most important rules relating to content are that a newsletter should be:
-
Topical (contain news, e.g. coming events, new products, announcements etc)
-
Readable (contain short, properly written, focused articles)
-
Useful (have an advice column, hints & tips, analyze issues etc)
-
Balanced (contain a mixture of serious and light-hearted content)
-
Compelling (cover areas known to be of interest to its readership)

Keeping In Contact
Nothing can compare with newsletters as communication tools for keeping in contact with
groups. A newsletter written with the 5 rules of meaningful content in mind, at the
same time as providing information and focused entertainment to readers, offers three major
benefits to the owner ,because it:
-
Demonstrates expertise on the part of the owner/producer in a particular
field.
-
Establishes credibility and stability due to being a periodical rather than a
one-off.
-
Engenders loyalty on the part of the reader through the service it provides.
It goes without saying that, in order for its marketing potential to be realized, the
newsletter's content must always be paramount
and conform to certain rules and guidelines. That is where the five rules come in.

-
remains essentially unaltered

If you would like to reprint an article but, for some reason, you cannot (or

must ask for permission in advance. We try to accommodate reasonable requests.
We really appreciate receiving emails explaining when and where articles were used and
other similarly interesting information. We try to help those that do this by giving them a
mention in one or more of our mailing lists as well as considering other promotional
possibilities.

Important Email Information
To lessen the chances of email addresses falling prey to address harvesting software (as
used by spammers) we avoid showing them in full. Instead, we only show prefixes (what
comes before '@'). Please be sure to add the @ and (usually) 101newsletteranswers.com.
